BARRIER FILM FOR LONGER SHELF LIFE

In this field, there is a very wide range of packaging. These products are obtained by coating the plain, base film.

There are double-layered films with acrylic coating, very bright and transparent, with an intermediate gas barrier compared to coextruded and PVdC coating (or saran). They are used in overwrapping where there is a need for a particular image (e.g. overwrapped perfume boxes). They can also be used for horizontal packaging. In high thicknesses they are used for box windows. They have a low sealing temperature, so are ideal for overwrapping, where the product cannot tolerate much pressure.

The second type is film with differentiated coats. On one side there is an acrylic coat and on the other a PVdC one (the barrier). The two coats are compatible and therefore weldable to each other. These films have the advantage, by keeping the acrylic coating outside the package, of having good transparency and excellent gloss, slipperiness and machinability (thanks to the acrylic coat), as well as a high barrier to gases, provided by the internal PVdC coat.

Double-layered films with PVdC coating: these films, also called double-saran-coated, have the same coating as XST cellophane (saran-coated) and therefore have a very high barrier to gases or smells. They are used for any type of packaging where a high barrier to gases or smells is needed and in particular in overwrapping, where the sealing bars cannot tolerate much pressure due to the low resistance of the product to be packaged. In fact, they have a low weldability threshold and can be perfectly welded with a minimum pressure.
